I specialise in designing interesting homes for interesting people, but I always love a quirky side project too. This barber’s shop in Bow Lane was an example of this. The starting point was a fictional story – a character called Jack the Clipper, grandson of the notorious Jack the Ripper. 

The client already had a strong narrative and brand. My job – in conjunction with Form Rooms – was to make the interior tell that story, and to make sure that every detail was perfect. 

One of the barber’s mirrors for instance was shaped like a guillotine, with a splash of blood on it. It was fun to create such a unique environment, with a touch of theatre and with storytelling at its heart.
