A visit to the doctor’s can be traumatic. So when I was asked to come up with a design for this new health centre, I decided to make it as much like a home as possible.

Parsloe’s Health Centre takes its inspiration from Edwin Lutyens’ vision of the perfect suburban home. It is naturally ventilated with a series of red brick chimneys. A wide internal street runs the full length of the building, with triple-height triple-aspect public rooms facing onto domestic-style gardens. Glazed circulation cores, bridges, voids and terraces intersect, stitching all levels together. The health centre is designed to house a large GP practice, a wide range of community health services, office space, staff facilities, a library and meeting rooms.
